Day 1 - Transfer to Java

From South Bali (1:00 pm) in a comfortable vehicle, or from Ubud (2:30 pm), through the Balinese landscape, we join the ferry at Gilimanuk to Java to start our Javanese journey through tropical landscapes.

After dinner and a few hours of sleep, we listen to our guides at the base camp of Kawah Ijen at 1,900 m altitude, giving us instructions for the climb and providing us with the masks and lamps needed for our nighttime epic to the summit and then inside the crater.

Day 2 - Active crater of Kawah Ijen

Our ascent of the volcano starts around 2 am. With our attentive and vigilant professional guides, the ascent of less than 2 hours allows everyone to check their physical condition of the moment.

From the top of the crater (2 300 m), equipped with our lamps and our night apprehensions, the descent into the depths of the active crater is spectacular! The "blue flames" are waiting for us at the bottom, unique and elusive until the sunrise.

Our professional guides, former sulfur workers, explain and inform us while remaining very vigilant and attentive for our safety.

Discover and enjoy this unrealistic and unusual moment: savor the sunrise over the largest acid lake in the world, with its diverse and often turquoise hues, and support the labor of the sulfur workers toiling in this improbable and Kafkaesque universe.

Our local breakfast will be our reward for the strength spent during this climb and we will continue our expedition, through the plantations of coffee, tobacco and sugar cane, on the winding roads of Java. Final lunch before our arrival in late afternoon in Cemoro Lawang, picturesque village where we will spend the night at 2300m altitude in Bromo.

After our "local color" meal, and despite the "mountainous" night conditions, we will appreciate the few hours of rest before being ready for our ascent of Gunung Bromo. Night at GOOD KARMA Bromo.

Day 3 - Discover the Bromo and the Tengger caldera

By jeep 4x4, at 3:30 am, transfer to the volcanic site. We climb on the viewpoints of the Tengger-Bromo caldera to admire the sunrise above the volcanoes Bromo, Batok, Semeru ...

Depending on the weather conditions, the view is breathtaking and sublime ... after crossing the "sea of sand" (composed of ash and dust from the last eruptions of Bromo) by jeep, begins, at the feet of the 2 volcanoes Bromo and Batok, the ascent of Bromo itself.

We climb a narrow and sinuous path made of volcanic sand and rocky rejections of the volcano, until the last steps, to reach the top of the crater of Bromo. Dumbfounded by the echo of the tumult coming from the depths of the earth, and the spectacle of the smoking crater evacuating sulphurous vapors, we are sure to memorize these extraordinary moments, all our life!

Strong of our volcanic experiences, we join Probolinggo to join, by train Yogyakarta (arrival around 20:00) or Surabaya by car (arrival around 18:00), last stages of our Javanese epic.

By guaranteeing you a healthy physical fatigue, you will certainly cherish these days of trip, which will have brought you imperishable memories.
