Kawah Ijen is famous for its rare “blue flames,” a natural phenomenon caused by the combustion of sulfuric gases, best seen at night. Additionally, its crater lake is the largest acidic lake in the world. This extraordinary site also allows visitors to witness sulfur mining by local workers, all set against a dramatic volcanic backdrop. It’s a fascinating and enriching experience not to be missed.

Day 1 – Tumpak Sewu Waterfalls
Your adventure begins with a morning departure from Surabaya (5:30 AM) or Malang (8:30 AM). After a scenic drive through Java’s landscapes, you’ll arrive late morning at the breathtaking Tumpak Sewu waterfalls, considered the most impressive in Indonesia. Enjoy panoramic views from above before descending to the base of the falls for an unforgettable close-up experience in the heart of the jungle.
After this unique immersion, the journey continues toward Mount Bromo, with a local lunch along the way. Check-in and overnight stay in a simple yet clean guesthouse located at 2,300 meters.
Day 2 – Sunrise at Mount Bromo
After an early wake-up around 3:30 AM, you’ll set off in a 4x4 jeep for the ascent of Mount Bromo (an active volcano, 2,300 m altitude). You'll first climb a narrow, winding path leading to the 250 steps up to the crater rim.
At the top, witness the fascinating sight of the smoking crater as the first light of day appears—an unforgettable and magical moment. Watching the sunrise over the smoking crater, surrounded by Mount Batok (an extinct volcano, 2,400 m) and Mount Semeru (Java’s highest volcano at 3,677 m, still active and erupting), is an awe-inspiring experience.
After the sunrise and volcano ascent, you’ll cross the Sea of Sand, a surreal landscape of volcanic ash and dust left by past eruptions. You’ll then reach Seruni viewpoint, a peaceful and less crowded spot offering spectacular panoramic views over the entire Tengger volcanic massif.
After a well-deserved breakfast, your journey continues through stunning landscapes, charming villages, and lush plantations (coffee, tobacco, rice, etc.) toward the Kawah Ijen volcano. A local lunch will be served along the way.
You’ll be hosted in a comfortable guesthouse, where a traditional Javanese dinner awaits to conclude this day full of discoveries.
Day 3 – Night Ascent of Kawah Ijen & Final Transfer to Bali
Departure is at 1:00 AM to reach the base camp at 1,900 meters above sea level. After a safety briefing and distribution of essential equipment (headlamps, gas masks, etc.), you'll begin a 1.5-hour guided ascent led by our experienced professional guides. You'll follow a scenic mountain trail under a sky full of stars until reaching the summit of Kawah Ijen at 2,300 meters. Then comes the most breathtaking part: in complete darkness, you'll descend into the active crater of the volcano to witness one of the world’s rarest natural phenomena—the famous blue flames.
Our guides—former sulfur miners—will accompany you safely into the crater. Always attentive, they ensure your safety and offer support throughout this intense volcanic experience. As dawn breaks, you’ll witness the stunning sight of the world’s largest acidic lake—an unforgettable and surreal moment. While admiring the turquoise waters of the crater, you’ll also observe the incredible courage of the sulfur miners who carry heavy loads up the steep path.
After returning to base camp and your guesthouse, you’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast prepared by a local Javanese family, followed by a well-deserved shower. Then, you’ll begin the journey toward Bali. After crossing by ferry, drop-off is available in Pemuteran, Munduk, Ubud, or Seminyak (arrival late afternoon).

FAQ
