Place you should visit on and around Java island

22 April 2020

The majority of visitors that come to Indonesia come for Bali, and then they discover some of the surrounding islands. So what does Java have to offer? Whatever is on your to-do list when planning your trip, you will most likely find it on this one-of-a-kind island. From the country’s most significant urban area to a remote diving paradise or volcanos archipelago, discover the best destinations in Java. And why should you visit ASAP? It’s still one of the world’s best-kept secrets, not yet wholly overcrowded by tourists.

1. Volcanos paradise of Mt Bromo and Ijen crater

East Java comprises some of the most iconic volcanoes. Watching sunrise overlooking Mt Bromo and its surrounding peaks has become the quintessence of volcanic experience in Indonesia. It makes you feel like you just stepped into one of the dinosaurs’ era and wish you could stay there. You will find the Ijen crater, one of the most epic adventures in Indonesia. The only place on Earth to witness blue fire in nature, the largest acid lake in the world, and one of the toughest jobs in the world local miners are doing in a sulfur mine inside the crater.

2. Dream beaches and island hopping

Indonesia is a tropical paradise with countless exotic island destinations to discover. Karimunjawa is a string of isles off the coast of Central Java, home to flourishing coral reefs, mangroves, and various biodiversity, including rare and protected ones. Another option for wonderful island hopping is around Tabuhan Island, Menjangan Island, and Rumah Apung. If you are into a white sand beach, go for Papuma beach, and for the black sand beach, Payangan beach should be your choice.

3. Waterfalls, waterfalls, and more waterfalls

And all are stunning. If we had to pick one, Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is arguably Indonesia’s most spectacular waterfall. It isn’t the largest, even in East Java, but it is the most impressive, but to go there, you need time(+/- 1 Day), and the access is not easy. Easy to combine with a trip to Bromo, Madakaripura waterfalls: Amazing and so unforgettable. On your way there, you will stumble upon Goa Tetes that is essentially a collection of caves and cascades up the cliff. Another incredible sight is 100m+ Kabut Pelangi. The force it generates when it hits the pool below is incredible, and if you catch the conditions at the right time, you will be able to see a rainbow in the mist at the bottom of the waterfall! Kapas Biru waterfall and Coban Sriti waterfall are also beautiful.

4. Beautiful villages

If colors are your thing, mark Jodipan village, on one side of the bridge there’s ‘Colorful village,’ and on the other hand, it is an entirely blue village. Local students have painted the communities to attract tourists and save the locals from poverty, and they certainly did a great job! Another attractive town is next to Bandung and is established around the lake. One of our favorite places on Java is Dieng Plateau, a natural and cultural destination. Other than the sweeping mountain view of jungles and distant villages, this highland has a multi-colored lake, a hot spring, and ancient Hindu temples.

5. Big, magical temples

Indonesia has temples and sacred archaeological sites scattered throughout the country. While in the Yogyakarta region, there are three of these magnificent monuments not to miss, and you can visit them all in one day: from sunrise to sunset. Begin your temples day in the early hours of the morning with the sunrise over Borobudur Temple. It is the world’s largest Buddhist temple, with over 500 Buddha statues scattered around the site. After that, head a few miles northeast of Yogyakarta to the Prambanan Temple compound. It is a collection of three main temples dedicated to Hindu deities; Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu. Just 3 kilometers to the south of Prambanan Temple is a place that can defeat the beauty of many sunsets around the world, Ratu Boko. It makes for a romantic evening.
